It’s always an honor to be welcomed into a family’s home to capture the sweetest moments. In-home newborn sessions are always a little extra special. Like many of my other clients, Jenni and Nick began as a newly engaged couple reaching out for wedding and engagement photography. Fast-forward a few years and here we are!

There’s nothing like photographing a couple’s firstborn, but I love capturing the dynamic with little ones embracing their new sibling. The playful curiosity mixed with moments of “look at me” sass like only a toddler knows so well!

I also wanted to share a few images of Jenni, Nick and their daughter weeks before baby number two arrived. Maternity sessions are such a special way to celebrate this time and relative calm before baby arrives. The dynamic with a toddler in the mix may shifts a bit of course, but it adds a candid playfulness to the session which I love. Kids have a way of keeping it real!

Only a few weeks left to soak up time with mommy and daddy as an only child. She’s going to be the best big sister though!

Is there anything more beautiful than a glowing momma? I realize there are probably days when you don’t quite feel your best, but trust me when I say you will look back one day in awe of yourself. And your kids will appreciate seeing these photos of their gorgeous and amazing mother.

Jump ahead just several weeks later – just the sweetest (and fleeting!) moment with these sisters.

One of the things I love about in-home sessions is documenting this stage of the whole family’s life. I want to capture a sense of place, and anything that makes it uniquely your home. For close-up portraits, I’m always going to scope out the home when I arrive and look for the best light. I really try to keep it simple though. Good light, calm vibes, great photos.

And when a toddler is involved, I tend to follow their lead a bit and give the parents some time to settle in. Sometimes they need a little time to warm up, other times they welcome the attention. So much of being a good photographer is about “reading the room” and figuring out what people need to feel most comfortable.

When I step back and allow people a little space to warm up and relax, it’s much easier to capture moments like this.

Sweet dreams, little one!

I certainly don’t need to tell you that they don’t stay this little for very long. Before you know it, they will be graduating high school! (Oh yeah, and did I mention I photograph high school seniors?) Wait, too soon?

I can just hear her cute little giggle! This is actually one of my favorites from this session. Not quite perfect, but also, absolutely perfect.

Is there anything cuter than a little baby yawn?

Or a happy giggly toddler playing peek-a-boo?

There is something so timeless about a soft black and white photograph of a newborn. I always deliver a curated set of black and white images with my newborn and family galleries.

Few things in this career are more validating and rewarding than walking into a family’s home and seeing so many beautiful photos that I have captured for them over the years displayed so intentionally on their walls. This right here just makes my heart swell! What an honor.

Thank you again to the sweetest family for trusting me with capturing so many of your life’s biggest moments!
See you next time!
